Thanksgiving Weekend Football Overdose?

THRILLHOLoyal, LWN readers, I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving holiday. Im sure you all got your football fix. This holiday was absolutely non-stop for Thrillho, he is still trying to get out of ‘zombie mode’. Please feel free to share your holiday experience in the comments section below.

My Thanksgiving weekend was non-stop football. This isn’t a bad thing, but I cant say I am going to be upset about the ‘lull’ between Championship weekend and crazy bowl madness. My brother and his girlfriend flew into town Thanksgiving night for the weekend. He has never been to a Gator game, and this being the last game that I have season tickets, he jumped on the opportunity. The four of us watched the Gators roll in Florida Florida Statethe swamp. It was my first time at the UF FSU game and the rivalry is still strong, even though FSU just isnt that good. I must admit, I am sick of the super-biased fans pumping up Tebow like he is the second coming of Dr. Gatorade (RIP). However, you really have to believe the hype. He really is that good. If you think Oregon is bad without Dixon, well this is the SEC version, and I think it would be real ugly with the Gator schedule. His numbers are just mind blowing and he makes it look so easy.

Look at what he has done since he has been at Florida.

There are two main criticisms for Tebow getting the Heisman, and these are the only two I can think of:

  1. He is only a sophmore – Ok, so traditionally, this award does not go to sophmores. This kid was born in 1987, and look at what he is doing. He may not be the most talented player in the league (I’m looking at you, McFadden), but he is putting up insane numbers consistently (I’m looking at you, McFadden). This is a team that lost 5 offensive starters, and 9 defensive starters. He has shouldered the load in almost every game he has played this season, which brings me to the next criticism:
  2. He has 3 losses – This is true. The losses to Auburn and LSU both came down to the last play of the game. These games would not have been close if another QB was at the helm. The Georgia loss was the most convincing of the year, and it was also the only game that Tebow showed weakness. His running shoulder was obviously hurting him that game, and it showed us how weak the team can look with even a pedestrian QB.

Now I feel like a Homer, which I am not. Having been to every home game in his career, I can see how talented this kid is. He deserves the trophy. We all know that its never a guarantee that he will get it next year, so dont give me the sophmore excuse. Talent is coming younger and younger, and its about time they remove that bias. Please direct all Colt Brennan related hatemail to LWN.

On the topic of insane talent, I now segue into the next game I attended on the weekend, the Mighty Buffalo Bills at the Jacksonville Jaguars. After watching Tim Tebow tear apart the Seminoles, it was definitely tough to watch Losman. I am officially off the JP bandwagon. Ive been on and off since he is been there. I just want to avoid a QB controversy at all costs, and I think JP just solved that problem for us. I doubt we will see JP take a snap in a Bills uniform again barring an injury to Edwards. Im not saying Edwards is great, he has proven nothing, Im just saying Losman is GARBAGE!

Speaking of garbage, let me give you an quick rundown of my experience with Jags fans. The team is 8-3 and hot on the heels of the Colts (who they play this coming week). They can lock up a playoff spot with a couple more wins. At the game, there were 11 entire sections covered up. 11!!! On the picture to the left you will see two of those sections. There were 3 more on our side of the field, and 6 more in the endzone. Are you for real? If Buffalo was 8-3, you wouldnt be able to get tickets! Show some pride in your team.

Also, does JP realize that Lee Evans is on the team? He threw it to him 3 times all game, once was from his back and straight up in the air. They really miss Marshawn as well. That is all I will say about the game, it was ugly.

I did however, get to dress up a Patriots fan like this:

I love how “false hope” is a tag on every post you have about the Bills.

  2. Not unlike the Everglades, the sportspublic in Florida needs to be maintained in a delicate balance. Vis the following: 1) Fla. – Fla. St. are huge schools that indoctrinate significant percentages of their matriculants into the mindset that football is important, and thus do very well even in down years; 2) The Miami Dolphins have been at least moderately popular for over 30 years (nationally); 3) expansions into the disparate and (at least partly) retirement-age Florida populace (it’s never a bad idea to blame the elderly) have been positively disastrous – Marlins (2 WS rings, no one goes to games), Panthers (even their logo looks like a joke), Lightning (two of the most electric (never mind the pun) and high profile players in the game, games are only occasionally attended), Jaguars (apparently have 11 sections closed during home football games), Devil Rays (the double curse of expansion AND being in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox). Overexpansion into Florida is drying up the wetlands and endangering species. Overexpansion into Florida’s sportspublic is just a bad idea, but at least no manatees had to suffer.

  4. THRILLHO says:

hey “contributer”, how about some “contribution”?

and yes, McFadden is sick, but do you realize that he has 7 less rushing TDs than Tebow? The South Carolina and LSU games are keeping McFadden in the race. 60 yards rushing vs FIU, and 320 vs SC. inconsistency could be the difference

    It’s “contributor”, retard.

I agree, Tebow for Heisman. His only truly bad game was against Georgia but he was obviously hurt. He even played half of a game with a broken hand (UF vs. FSU). Give him his props, he is an OUTSTANDING PLAYER!!!
