Gill Inked

December 18, 2008

3 years and two days ago the University at Buffalo embarked on a new mission to raise their program from it’s lackluster on-field performance and bring in a new coach with a proven track record to provide the meager fan base something, anything that would make them competitive.

They found a coach, who when first contacted did not know that Buffalo had a division I-A program after the new Athletic Director with a Michigan pedigree couldn’t even get people in his inner circle to provide him with ANYONE that had ANY interest in signing on to become Buffalo’s new head man.

He, or the search committee placed a call to a Player Development Director with the Green Bay Packers to gauge his interest in the position.  He was going to out and out decline the invitation to interview, but then after discussing it with his wife he changed his mind and felt that at the very least this interview would at least prepare him for future job openings.

“The Picture Doesn’t Exactly Explain My Predicted Outcome”

It is no secret that I am unabashed UB supporter and graduate.  These claims I cannot deny, I will however attempt to present a fair and balanced view of tonight’s game for my dear readers.  But, I cannot go much further without referencing some of the funniest UB ramblings on the Internet, which come from ubfan.com and specifically Hokie200Proof.  Here’s my favorite passage:

“Lord Gill sits in his chariot, proudly surveying all that he had accomplished.  After three months of fighting, sweat and blood, Gill has 7 heads tied to his reigns.  The heads were once the prized possession of those who were foolish enough to raise armies against the will of Gill.”

While this is madness, it’s pretty damn funny.  Let’s break the game down, yes I put the spread in there for fun:

A Gill Update

December 1, 2007

The image “https://i0.wp.com/www.buffalo.edu/UBT/UBT-archives/volume25number1/images/coach.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. For what it is worth, I have new information about the Gill scenario at Buffalo or Nebraska. I sent an e-mail to Turner giving him mad propers for the newly completed season. Below is a response either from him directly or a message from the athletic department about the proposed move to Nebraska.

What I find interesting is that I would never assume an athletic department would use “NE” or the “huskers” in the unofficial official statement to fans and alumni….. Then again it is the University at Buffalo. Use this info as you see fit. It is pretty obvious I am a UB alum and fan and Gill homer. From LWN- Read the rest of this entry »

“The Ire Of The Tiger….(s) Fans”

If Mizzou fans are not upset today, then they will be after reading this. If I were a Mizzou fan, I would be upset. Sure that win against Kansas was dare I say the biggest win in the history of the program? There has not been so much excitement in Columbia since Don Faurot introduced the “Split T” formation to the Tigers and collegiate football. Read the rest of this entry »

“If you watch ‘The Biggest Loser,’ then I know who the biggest loser is!”

We will start with a quote from one of my favorite movies from 2004, “Mean Girls.”

Remember the part when they have to do the trust fall? The wheel chair girl (Jessica Lopez) gets up there and says, “I don’t hate you cuz yo’ fat…..yo’ fat cuz I hate you.” Powerful words indeed dear readers.

“The Picture is Clearing up”

The BCS Championship is starting to come into focus, and I can say with glee, Ohio State WILL NOT be invited to the party (they don’t deserve it). Sadly, the Big Ten will once again not win the big dance. Ohio State and Michigan will battle to see who plays in the Rose Bowl this weekend. Don’t get me wrong, I was raised a Big Ten fan by ABC. I learned to hate Florida State and Miami from all the exposure they got in upstate NY, and I was still trying to figure out where the hell South Bend, Indiana was when forming my earliest sports hatreds (besides the Red Sox, Eagles and Cowboys). UB Basketball Preview

November 9, 2007

This is going to be a rough one folks. I waited to write my UB preview until after the first two games of the coaches versus cancer 2k sports gazelle promotions 2007 regionally held tournament.

Buffalo is going to be terrible this year. They team was picked to finish 5th in the MAC East. After listening to one game and watching another, they may be a lock for the basement.

In past years, Buffalo’s calling card was large, space eating finesse centers and streaky guard play. While they have been turnover prone in the past, last year they hit rock bottom with 590 turnovers in the season. They finished 12-19, and averaged 19 turnovers per game! UB-uffalo isn’t all bad

November 7, 2007

Those of you living in Buffalo may remember this-

Former Buffalo RB Willis McGahee had an interview with Penthouse Magazine where he talked about the future of the Bills and the city in general.

“That would be a good situation. Toronto is a beautiful place. But if they’re going to put a team there, they should just bring the Buffalo Bills to Toronto. Case closed.”

Then, weeks after he was traded, McGahee painted the entire
community as a cultural backwater, quoted in The Baltimore Sun as
knocking Buffalo’s nightlife, restaurants and women, saying he’d
spend most of his down time eating at Applebee’s and sitting on the
couch playing video games. Of course McGahee’s asshole agent Drew Rosenhaus said all those comments “were taken out of context.” What were the questions?

Interviewer- “Willis, if you were a venture capitalist who purchased the Bills and were forced to move them…. where would you go?”

Interviewer- “Willis, what is your favorite chain restuarant in Buffalo?”

Kenny Mayne, the most hilarious man in all of sports did a “Mayne Event” feature with new Bills RB Marshawn Lynch poking fun at McGahee.
