Gill Inked

December 18, 2008

3 years and two days ago the University at Buffalo embarked on a new mission to raise their program from it’s lackluster on-field performance and bring in a new coach with a proven track record to provide the meager fan base something, anything that would make them competitive.

They found a coach, who when first contacted did not know that Buffalo had a division I-A program after the new Athletic Director with a Michigan pedigree couldn’t even get people in his inner circle to provide him with ANYONE that had ANY interest in signing on to become Buffalo’s new head man.

He, or the search committee placed a call to a Player Development Director with the Green Bay Packers to gauge his interest in the position.  He was going to out and out decline the invitation to interview, but then after discussing it with his wife he changed his mind and felt that at the very least this interview would at least prepare him for future job openings.

49.  McCain’s teeth are scary

48.  Do Democrats really want to be crestfallen again?

LWN’s Administrative Assistant Picks The Bowls

December 21, 2007

My master plan was to have the esteemed writers of LWN’s Sports Blog go head to head with the Admin Assistant picking bowl games.  So far Admin Assistant is the only one to give me the picks.  I guess when you don’t pay your writers they get to you whence they can.

admin assistant

Without further ado, these are the picks of someone who knows nothing about football except the following three things.

  1. Indianapolis has a football team
  2. That team’s nickname is the Colts
  3. The Colts Quarterback is Peyton Manning

Here are her picks in choronological order.  No spreads were used, the games were chosen straight up.

College Football Bowl Preview – Edition 1

December 19, 2007

“College Coaches Are No Different Than South American Freedom Fighters.”

An open letter to college coaches-

Dear Money Grubbing Ego-maniacal Scumbags:

I understand that coaching can be a brutal profession, but as Gregg Easterbrook pointed out, it can also be done by volunteers (unlike surgeons).  The only reason that your families collapse, your health fades and you sleep in your offices is because each of you are trying to keep up with the Joneses.

College Football Week Non-existent/ Heisman Hype

December 5, 2007

Football

We have entered the doldrums of the 2007 college football season. While this is sad, we can reflect on the season. We can also discuss the Heisman Trophy which will be handed out on Saturday.

The season began with a bang, and ended with a thud for some teams. Let’s look at some of the madness that occurred.

It’s Monday and I AM Angry Part IV

December 3, 2007

Troy Aikman Sucks

Fox’s Troy Aikman and Joe Buck need to stop announcing Giants games or my beautiful television might not survive. Their unprofessional rhetoric is getting old, damn quick. I have never seen a broadcast team go out of their way to talk so poorly about a player who has never been convicted of a crime.

If this seems like something I wrote before, that’s because I did.

The Man of Cheese With His Picks 11/29

November 29, 2007

Welcome to college football rivalry week. Wait a minute… wasn’t last week college football rivalry week? Only in a sport like college football – where National Championships are won by avoiding a difficult non conference schedule (I’m talking to you West Virginia and Ohio State) – can there be two rivalry weeks. But I guess having two rivalry weeks is better than one, right? I mean last week we enjoyed the Iron Bowl, KU – Mizzou Border War, Texas – Texas A&M, and many more. Read the rest of this entry »

College Football Week 14

November 28, 2007

“The Ire Of The Tiger….(s) Fans”

If Mizzou fans are not upset today, then they will be after reading this. If I were a Mizzou fan, I would be upset. Sure that win against Kansas was dare I say the biggest win in the history of the program? There has not been so much excitement in Columbia since Don Faurot introduced the “Split T” formation to the Tigers and collegiate football. Read the rest of this entry »

College Football Week 12

November 13, 2007

“The Picture is Clearing up”

The BCS Championship is starting to come into focus, and I can say with glee, Ohio State WILL NOT be invited to the party (they don’t deserve it). Sadly, the Big Ten will once again not win the big dance. Ohio State and Michigan will battle to see who plays in the Rose Bowl this weekend. Don’t get me wrong, I was raised a Big Ten fan by ABC. I learned to hate Florida State and Miami from all the exposure they got in upstate NY, and I was still trying to figure out where the hell South Bend, Indiana was when forming my earliest sports hatreds (besides the Red Sox, Eagles and Cowboys).
