Well Warrior fans, your two most notable residents will be leaving you soon. Your boy Colt Brennan left his heart, and many brain cells on the field in Louisiana after getting throttled by Georgia. Now your undisputed leader is leaving to go coach a dead program in Dallas. By the way, SMU plays in Conference USA a mid level conference with no major bowl tie-ins. Jones left the WAC, a better conference which has made a name for itself the past two years.
Even though I assume your administrative officials performed a “haka” in front of Jones to keep him from leaving, it was not enough. You see Hawaii fans, you had a magical season now it is over. Your temperate climate was not enough to keep your coach. Perhaps the combination of your expensive goods, crappy pay and aging facilities forced your leader out. If you want to play with the big boys, you need to “pony” up the dough…exactly what SMU did.

Jones is getting $2 Million a year to coach at SMU!!! Wow!!! I guess somebody at SMU wants to go to the GMAC Bowl really bad next year.

Hawaii’s AD was fired shortly after for not being able to get Jones to stay

I heard the AD was fired in part because there was a big Sugar Bowl ticket mix up that pissed off a lot of Hawaii grads.

I am still so very PROUD of fight that Colt put up with those Big Fat Dogs. I think the WAC should put make a better match then with the SEC. We that went to support our Warriors, were told by so many people “that the Hawaiian people are really the BEST, SUPPORTIVE, GREAT PEOPLE that we have ever seen”, now that says alot about our O’HANA. June Jones did what he came to do and now it’s time for him to teach another club how to be winners. Colt did not come out a loser, he’s a winner in every respect!
I think our new team will have it rough, next year! But we must all support them and their new coaches. They will rock!!! We have alot of ALOHA! for June Jones, Bess, Rice-Mullin, Rivers, and of course Colt. Go tough and I want to see you guys in the NFL!!!
Congrats on winning and putting Hawaii on the map!!

It looks like UH should start looking for more competent English professors instead of football coaches. Also, you are proud of the ‘fight’ that Brennan ‘put up’ against Georgia? The only fight i saw was him fighting to retain consciousness while getting destroyed for roughly 3 hrs.
The “WAC should put make a better match then with the SEC”. I am not really sure what this means, but right now Florida has Hawaii on their schedule for next season, and it is AT Hawaii. We shall see how that works out for Hawaii.

Thrill, are you really arguing that nancy doesn’t know football because of her use of proper English? you’re attacking her, not her argument. let me show you an example: you don’t know football because you are a fag. although true, not a true argument.
Honestly colt Brennan was not all to blame for hawai’i’s loss. The key factor was the o line choking. just like the superbowl. tom terrific looked like the human grass stain, and it wasn’t his fault.
also uh is playing Florida in the swamp, not at aloha stadium. Its called facts, it should be straight.

originally it was scheduled to be AT UH, now it looks like the schedule changed. still, you act as if it would matter..
and from reading endless comments from Colt Brennan backers, i dont exactly think im going out on a limb here by questioning intelligence. i didnt really think it was necessary to question her ‘football knowledge’, especially since it was totally incoherent.

Hey moron if they HAD the money they would probably pony it up but Hawaii isn’t exactly an SEC, or PAC-10 school now are they? Hawaii suffers from it’s location being that it’s an island and not many people can afford to live there more or less send their kid to college there so the university doesn’t exactly have the kind of demographic that schools like USC, Florida, or even Georgia have to bring students in from.
You said “if you want to play with the big boys” did they not just play against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, last I check the SEC is one of the big boy divisions.
Any of you idiots that are bashing on Hawaii and Brennan for losing to Georgia obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I expected Georgia to beat Hawaii, they damn well should be able to when they have millions of dollars to toss around on football scholarships. The University of Hawaii has something around $500,000 to spend on scholarships and not exactly the best demographic from which to recruit people to come in and play ball. Let’s not forget the fact that Boise State who lost to Hawaii was returning from the previous season in which they beat Oklahoma in one of the most spectacular bowl game finishes of that particular year so Hawaii was a good team just not up to SEC type standards. If Georgia would have lost I would have been amazed and to tell you the truth it would have been pretty damn embarassing for all that money to lose to such a small school as the University of Hawaii.
Oh and you can’t start dogging on Brennan when all the other Quarterbacks in the nation break 31 NCAA passing records in just three seasons, the awesmoe thing being that he didn’t even play three entire seasons because he sat some games out with injuries.
I think I’ll also point out that none of you morons will be breaking any NCAA passing records anytime soon nor will you be throwing as many passes anywhere near as accurately as Brennan has. Keep watching him play with the Skins, so far he has 3 TDs in the preseason and has looked pretty damned good.

Dear Zach:
Kudos for waiting almost a full year to reply to the least offensive thing we wrote about Hawaii all year. Please allow me to retort to your rambling comments which seem to have sense, then fall apart, like me after 15 beers.
1. Newsflash: Kids who attend Hawaii to play football don’t pay to attend your island paradise. Therefore, your money comment with regard to athletes is now void.
2. Why would recruiting suffer? If I were recruited to play there, I would go in a second (especially if I were playing a skill position).
3. Hawaii has an annual 21 million dollar budget according to your athletic director.
4. Yes, I said, “If you want to play against the big boys,” in reference to competing on a high level. This was not a slight to your great season, but in regard to your school’s “woe is me” attitude. Yes, you did play against Georgia and were soundly beaten, which was my point of your overrated season.
5. You said “demographic” 145 times. Sure Hawaii might not be the best pool of athletes, but then again sell them on something else. Donovan McNabb went to Syracuse after all. You are telling me Syracuse has more to offer than your island paradise?
6. Passing records? I don’t hear you championing the efforts of Timmy Chang, the former holder of most of those records.
7. Amazing you mention Colt Brennan’s injuries and not his rape charge and subsequent transfer.
8. Correct, I will not be breaking NCAA passing records, my eligibility is up. Alas, I challenge Brennan to a non-sexual assault contest, or a sentence writing competition. HOLLER!

rape charge? are you serious the charges were burglary and trespassing idiot and the girl could only get tresspassing the burglary charge was dropped
im from georgia and i was happy to see my dawgs win but i also thought that colt brennan had no chance cuz of his small ass oline i think the guy is a great qb
yes his stats were inflated but look at the accuracy 70 percent and he throws 50 passes a game. and dont compare him to timmy chang because timmy chang also holds the record for most interceptions
January 13, 2009 at 8:34 am |
is this guy seriously still relevant?
