NFL Week 14

November 30, 2007

I don’t want to have sex with cars.”

If you have been watching commercials lately, and I bet you have then it is possible you are aware of two new ad campaigns. One is from Cadillac, the other Volkswagen. What is the Caddy slogan, something like “When you turn on your car it should return the favor.” Volkswagen’s is “When you get into your car, it should get into you.”

Poker: Why we love it.

November 30, 2007

sopranos.jpg

I first fell in love with Poker as a boy, probably no older than 10 or 11. I was at my Cousin Vinny’s birthday, (yes, I have a cousin named Vinny), bored with the silly 7 and 8 year olds running around and screaming, I wandered into the forbidden basement of my Uncle Jim’s house. Around a table sat 6 burly Italian men, some chewing on cigars, others smoking filterless Camels, small glasses of 800px-casino_slots.jpg800px-casino_slots.jpgvarious liquors and wine in front of each of them. Analysis: The Giants can’t lose three times in a season to the same team. New England coasts. Seattle get hot late. New England is the champ.

The Man of Cheese With His Picks 11/29

November 29, 2007

Welcome to college football rivalry week. Wait a minute… wasn’t last week college football rivalry week? Only in a sport like college football – where National Championships are won by avoiding a difficult non conference schedule (I’m talking to you West Virginia and Ohio State) – can there be two rivalry weeks. But I guess having two rivalry weeks is better than one, right? I mean last week we enjoyed the Iron Bowl, KU – Mizzou Border War, Texas – Texas A&M, and many more. Read the rest of this entry »

“Is This Really a Sport?” Of The Week!

November 28, 2007

This week Kaplan572 is exploring the wide world of Cheese.

This week we visit jolly olde England where we will investigate the annual happenings at Coopers Hill in Gloucester.

Now this is no ordinary hill. Firstly it’s really really steep and secondly people race down it after a rolling wheel of cheese! That’s right I said cheese! Besides the fact that cheese is perhaps the most delicious thing on earth, it’s also heavy and when molded into wheel shape it can roll down a steep hill at tremendous speeds (over 75 mph or so I’ve heard). Apologetic Sports News Articles Get A Thumbs Down From UDOJ

November 28, 2007

Blackberry CurveAs I often find myself deciding ultimate justice on the run, I am the proud owner of a BlackBerry Curve (at $450, it makes a great stocking stuffer), which keeps me in the know about all things sports. I even have a LWN RSS feed on there. It’s great, but I’m not here to blow the trumpet of the 862nd most popular sportsblog in America, or teach you all how technology can change your lives, but rather to wonder. I wonder why a senior writer (Len Pasquarelli) for the Worldwide Leader in Sports (ESPN) felt the need to apologize for his subject in this article FIVE times in the first three paragraphs (the story was the main article on the ESPN.com mobile site the morning of November 28). Len wrote about the tragic death of Sean Taylor, but also about the impact that Sean’s absence will have on the Washington Redskins’ defense. Though this subject is somewhat grisly, ESPN.com is a sports website – it is entirely appropriate to discuss the purely sports-related effect of a death, particularly when several other posted stories on ESPN.com have thoroughly covered the tragic/human angle. College Football Week 14

“The Ire Of The Tiger….(s) Fans”

If Mizzou fans are not upset today, then they will be after reading this. If I were a Mizzou fan, I would be upset. Sure that win against Kansas was dare I say the biggest win in the history of the program? There has not been so much excitement in Columbia since Don Faurot introduced the “Split T” formation to the Tigers and collegiate football. Read the rest of this entry »

Gill is in at Nebraska?

November 27, 2007

This is all speculation, trust me on that. Yesterday Nebraska AD Tom Osbourne flew on a chartered plane to Baton Rouge, LA apparently to interview LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pellini. The plane then left to fly to Atlanta to meet with their coach searching firm and, presumably to interview Buffalo head coach Turner Gill. Huskernation yesterday was convinced Pellini was the man. After the Nebraska jet landed late last night Osbourne and Chancellor Harvey Pearlman got off the plane, without a new coach in tow. Read the rest of this entry »
